The Southfield Community Foundation is governed by a board of trustees representing corporate, community and civic leaders from Southfield and Lathrup Village. Trustees are elected for three year staggered terms. Six trustees serve ex officio, including the Southfield City Manager, the Southfield Public Schools Superintendent, the immediate past president of the Southfield Area Chamber of Commerce, the Chair of the SPS Education Committee and two representatives from the Foundation's Youth Advisory Committee.
