The Southfield Community Foundation is dedicated to attracting and holding permanently endowed funds from a wide range of donors in order to enhance the quality of life for those who live and work in our communities.

As part of the Foundation's focus on education, helping people achieve their highest aspirations for the future, we have initiated the following scholarship programs.

MAYOR'S SCHOLARSHIP
Established in 2002

The Mayor's Scholarship was initiated by Mayor Brenda L. Lawrence. It was established as a permanent fund of the Foundation, dedicated to support philanthropic programs or projects as recommended by the elected mayor of the City of Southfield, Michigan. The initial purpose of the Fund is to give scholarship awards to deserving students who reside in the City of Southfield.

SCF MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP

he SCF Memorial Scholarship is an endowment fund established at the Southfield Community Foundation to provide assistance to residents of Southfield and Lathrup Village who are seeking to further their education through study at an accredited college, university, or vocational training program.

The Fund was initiated through memorial gifts contributed by the families and friends of three community activists: Vivian Hurite, Vicki Goldbaum, and Thomas Frommeyer. Additional gifts to the fund have been made in memory of Donald M. Fracassi, Shambline Quarles, Ada Moiseev, Donald Powers and Sandra Terrell.

The Gene Taylor Memorial Scholarship Fund was founded by the Southfield Community Foundation to honor Gene Taylor's work on the Foundation's Board of Directors and to celebrate Gene's inspirational commitment to philanthropy through his unwavering dedication to serve those in need.

PHILLIP C. VAILS MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP

The Phillip C. Vails Memorial Scholarship is presented annually to a student at Southfield High School who has been active in the music and/or theater programs. The Fund was created by the friends and family of Phillip in grateful memory of his unassusming leadership in his school, community, and church.

LOUISE WARD MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP

The Louise Ward Memorial Scholarship is presented annually to a student at Southfield Lathrup High School for continued studies in vocal music. The Fund was initiated by alumni of the Southfield Lathrup High School Madrigal Singers in grateful memory of Louise Ward who was, at once, their teacher, mentor, role model, and friend.
